Big Coal’s hold over Politics

The Governor of Utah is having back room meetings with coal companies while also controlling legislation that directly affects their business. An excerpt:

On the same day Gov. Gary Herbert sat down with a coal company that complained regulators were taking too long to issue a strip-mining permit, his campaign aides were cashing a $10,000 check from the company.

This seems treasonous to me. This type of despotism transcends partisan politics. While most Americans are distracted with the Us vs. Them mentality of politics, politicians from both parties are doing this kind of thing.

Some days it seems the only hope we have to pass some meaningful legislation to curb carbon emissions is to just outspend and out-bribe the oil and coal companies…
