With nearly 20 years of experience in Green Building, Eric Corey Freed is a design pioneer. Although his primary role is as Founding Principal of organicARCHITECT, he wears several other “hats” and has devoted his spare time to teaching, lecturing and writing, and sits on the boards of several nonprofit organizations.
“In the future, the term ‘green architect’ will be redundant. It will be like saying ‘fast sports car’ or ’structurally sound building.’ The sooner this tipping point occurs, the better.”
- Eric Corey Freed
His efforts are split into three main categories:
EDUCATION
With the goal of making every building a green building, Eric teaches Sustainable Design at several universities. In addition, he maintains an extensive lecture schedule at 40+ conferences a year, where he shares his consulting and research findings. He is also the author of four books, including the bestselling, “Green Building & Remodeling for Dummies.”
CONSULTING
As a consultant, Eric teaches other architects how to be green, using the “teach a man to fish” philosophy. In this role, he has worked on very large projects advising on design and sustainability issues.
ARCHITECTURE: organicARCHITECT
Eric Corey Freed is Founding Principal of organicARCHITECT.
Eric founded organicARCHITECT in San Francisco in 1997 to create both innovative AND sustainable buildings. Over the past decade, the firm has evolved into something much more than an architecture firm. As Eric has said, “we started doing things that weren’t Architecture, and didn’t make any money, but that I felt were important and needed.”
Today, in addition to their award-winning designs, oA devotes a considerable portion of their efforts to educational, non-profit and community work. Part research think-tank, part consulting firm, oA follows Gandhi’s famous charge, “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” To that end, organicARCHITECT produces lectures, events, articles, publications and consulting by teaching OTHER architects how to be green.
organicARCHITECT is considered leaders in the field; named by San Francisco Magazine “Best Green Architect” in 2005 and “Best Visionary” in 2007; and “Green Visionary” by 7×7 Magazine in 2008.
